Enigma - a person or thing that is mysterious, puzzling, or difficult to understand.
If the whale evolved from the mammal and therefore made it's way back to living in the water over consequent generations, as is currently believed in the theory of evolution, then it's difficult to understand how the logic of that works since the mammal would have had to live with the intention of going back into the water over many generations before evolving into the first marine-life animal in the evolution of the whale.
